You should teach him to say thank you. Or write it, or something. Courtesy is the quickest way to get what you want, so he'll probably find that intuitive.

he knows how to express happiness, so it shouldn't be too much of a jump to make, i guess

he knows what it means to kiss people on both cheeks, at least

because he understands reactions that are supposed to follow actions. or feelings.

so if you gave him pudding, and then told him to say "grazie", he'd figure out pretty quickly that when he's handed pudding the response is to say "grazie". that doesn't mean he'd make the leap to "that's what you always do when someone does something nice for you", but he'd get it in that specific instance pretty fast.

one of his friends loves him a lot and gets excited about him, and kisses his face like that when he sees him. so he made the connection that when he feels excited like that, the way to show it is by kissing someone like that.

So he can connect a response to a specific situation but can't generalize.

He's clever. Jojo won't shut up about it. See if you can get Star to do the cheek thing for him. Or maybe I'll just have Jojo hand over the pudding.

that won't be hard. he'll do it if i tell him, because that doesn't involve understanding. that's the part that i usually do for him, is understand a situation and tell him the right reaction.
